Looking for a gift to give your home stay pilgrim ?Consider a gift as part of your pilgrim program to help create awareness of the Aboriginal story. What about a gift that is culturally authentic. A special gift from you as a memento of their time on our sacred land. A gift where the money goes back to the Aboriginal Community It is really important to us Aboriginal peoples that when pilgrims come to our country they feel they are welcomed. We hope all pilgrims will go away from our country knowing something of our story and have had the opportunity to share or deep faith and Aboriginal spiritualty. It is really important to us there is a visual display of red, black and yellow colours during the Days in the Dioceses and World Youth Day in Sydney. A true sign of support and respect of the first peoples. "Acknowledge, respect, celebrate on Sacred Aboriginal land". Ideas & order form available by clicking here! |

Dear Community Members, I am writing to let you know about the journey of the Cross, Icon and Message Stick. As you can see from the attached letter the Message Stick has been sent to us as an invitation from our Brothers and Sisters in Sydney for our youth to be involved in World Youth Day 2008. The Cross and Icon has been traveling around the world with a message to call youth together in Sydney for World Youth Day 2008. They will be arriving in your part of the world 18th - 25th April 2008. This is a wonderful opportunity for your community to stand up proud and be acknowledged as the Traditional Owners and for your land to be recognized as belonging to your people. We are enclosing a flyer with Traditional Lands recognized by their Traditional names and we would be honored if you invite Elders, Traditional Owners or Youth who would like to be part of this amazing journey. By working together with us and the Days InThe Diocese staff you can make a statement from your whole community - we own this land and we are still here: ¨ Be recognized for preserving our culture that is held so close to our hearts. ¨ Help our Elders be acknowledged for keeping our culture strong for our youth and to be truly respected as Traditional Owners: “When identity and self worth are valued Faith and Culture are strengthened”. World Youth Day 08 is a chance for our Aboriginal Youth to stand up and be counted; it will be an opportunity for our culture to be showcased on a world stage. We are expecting 500,000 - 1,000,000 people in Sydney and many millions to be watching it televised on international Television. Regards, Sherry Balcombe Aboriginal Catholic Ministry |

11 May 2007: "DOES ANYBODY REALLY CARE ABOUT AUSTRALIA'S INDIGENOUS?" 40 years ago some 90.77% of the population stood up for Indigenous Australians and allowed Federal laws to be made on their behalf and to be counted in the census. Even with the hard work of many supporters of Indigenous Australians this was a huge surprise. We moved from the racist colonial system of the past into what was hoped to be a brighter future.
"As I reflect on the last 40 years it is evident people do not care, like in the past, about their fellow Australians who are left on the dung heap of society," said Mr Graeme Mundine, Executive Secretary of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ecumenical Commission. |
